This Is What It Means To Understand You

Another passage from The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hahn. This one is from Part II, The Eightfold Path:

The Sixth Miracle of Mindfulness is understanding. When we understand something, often we say, "I see." We see something we hadn't seen before. Seeing and understanding come from within us. When we are mindul, touching deeply the present moment, we can see and listen deeply, and the fruits are always understanding, acceptance, love, and the desire to releive suffering and bring joy. Understanding is the very foundation of love. When you understand someone, you cannot help but love him or her.

A miracle, indeed.

Cheers! I love it. I have had similar thoughts when working with the kids... I don't always understand what they are feeling or what they need, but having intuition and the desire to understand causes me experience love all the more. :)

So strange... so, I was at work last night and my boss's boyfriend was at the house. He and I were talking about something, I forget, and anyway he said, "... but if you truly understand someone, you must love them. There is no other way." How crazy is that?!? He pretty much directly quoted your blog a day after I read it! Seems the message is catching on...
